Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and during the expansion of the American railroads it held over 56 percent of the market. It introduced its first wristwatch in 1917, and in World War II it shipped more than one million watches to troops and built marine chronometers for the U.S. Navy.
